jAE WON JUNG
Jae Won Jung (b. 1986) is a contemporary South Korean artist based in New York and Seoul, exploring the relationship between human existence and the spatiotemporal realm through painting, installation, photography, and film.
Her work is characterized by a distinctive visual language that combines philosophical depth with sensory exploration, addressing fundamental questions about humanity, nature, temporality, and existence.
Jung initially pursued a degree in law at Yonsei University before transitioning to the arts. She later earned a BFA in Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) and an MFA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York.
She has held solo exhibitions at Artifact Gallery in Manhattan, New York (2019, 2021, 2022), CICA Museum in South Korea, and K&P Gallery in New York (2024). Her works have also been featured in numerous group exhibitions at notable galleries and institutions, including Van Der Plas Gallery, Lichtundfire Gallery, Ethan Cohen Gallery, K&P Gallery, STARTA ARTA Gallery, Brooklyn BWAC Gallery, Royal Society of American Art (RSOAA), and SVA Chelsea Gallery. Additionally, she has participated in prominent international art fairs such as the LA Art Show and Satellite Art Show Miami, continuously expanding the discourse around contemporary monochrome painting through her research and artistic practice.
Beyond her contributions to the visual arts, Jung has been recognized in the film industry, receiving multiple awards for her works, including Best Film and Best Screenplay honors at various international film festivals. Her films have been officially selected and awarded at events such as the Los Angeles International Film Awards, Manhattan International Film Festival, Chicago International Short Film Festival, Berlin Indie Film Festival, Korean American Film Festival New York (KAFFNY), and the Florence Film Corti Festival, among others.
